Cochran Commitment to Apprenticeships

The near-150 year old organisation currently employs 18 apprentices out of a workforce of 227 across the group – providing a host of advantages for the individuals involved, the business, local community and the surrounding economy.

Cochran’s Senior Leadership Team consists of five members, three of which started at Cochran approximately 40 years ago as an Apprentice:

  • Allan Shaw – apprentice Plater, is now Cochran Product and Service Delivery Manager
  • David Weild - apprentice Plater, is now Industrial Boiler Business Manager
  • Tom Ritchie – apprentice Fitter/Turner is now Managing Director

Committed to Fair Work, and a Living Wage employer, their team of apprentices are contributing right across the Cochran Group – working as manufacturers, platers, welders, pipefitters, electricians and fitters.

At the end of May they closed the Appication process to this years new Apprentice intake.  They will also be announcing who the Cochran Apprentice of the Year are as well as having a Trainee, Daniels Manfeld, shortlisted in the ICOM Trainee/Apprentice of the Year 2025.

What is an apprenticeship?

  • An apprenticeship is when someone works towards a qualification on the job.
  • Apprentices work with experienced colleagues on real projects while putting into practice what they learn.
  • Learning providers can be colleges, universities, independent learning providers or local authorities.

What an exciting time to be an Apprentice at Cochran.
