Cochran
recently welcomed First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, to our
Annan manufacturing facility.  He was accompanied by local MSP Joan
McAlpine, and spent a couple of hours touring the plant and chatting
with staff.  He was delighted to learn that Cochran Ltd has a record
order book and that a significant proportion, over 40%, is exported.  He
was especially pleased to hear of the resultant new jobs that had been
created in the Scottish manufacturing sector.  As well as recruiting
experienced craftsmen he learnt that we are currently training seventeen
apprentices.  He was particularly keen to meet the six new apprentices,
who started last month alongside three new design engineers.
Mr. Salmond re-iterated the Scottish Government's ongoing commitment
to assisting manufacturing companies, like Cochran, by providing support
through Scottish Enterprise in areas such as apprentice training and
through Scottish Development International in the development of export
markets.
